FAQ
Questions, answered straight
Real answers to real questions — starting with how to actually use Sam's Desk, TWOFORM's design studio, from the people who built it.
Getting started & modes
What should I do first, before I even open Sam's Desk?
If you already have a mental picture of your package, don't start blind. Sketch it out first with any AI image tool — ChatGPT, Gemini, whatever you like — until you land on a design and background you actually love. Then bring that image into TWOFORM and run it through our AI Reference Converter. It's the fastest, cheapest path to a design you're happy with.
What's the real difference between the design modes?
We recommend Standard · Recreate the Look for most people — it gives you the full artwork already laid out, and you just drag your logo and text on afterward, which takes seconds. Prompt Only is for anyone starting from scratch with no reference image. Full Control modes are for when you want your own logo and text placed automatically as part of the generation itself, instead of dragging them on after.
What should I expect from Full Control · Recreate Faithfully?
It depends on your design's complexity and colors. Sometimes Sam nails it on the first try. Asking our system to fully recreate a specific image is the most ambitious thing we do, so it can take a few generations to land one that's a near-exact match. If you don't mind dragging your logo and text on afterward — which is genuinely easy — Standard · Recreate the Look gets you there faster.
Can I switch modes in the middle of designing?
Yes — use Start Over inside Sam's Desk (not Restart Project in the top-right corner, which resets your whole order from step 1) and pick any other mode.
Uploading & references
What makes a good reference image, versus a bad one?
Our AI Reference Converter is built for less-than-perfect reference images — but two things trip it up: a completely different package type or size than what you're ordering, and a white package on a white background, where Sam can't find the edges. If your package is white, shoot it on a magenta or grey background instead.
If I upload my logo, does Sam ever change it?
No — it goes straight into your asset bank on the design canvas, untouched. The one exception is Full Control · Recreate Faithfully mode, where your logo is placed automatically as part of the generation.
Is there a file size or type limit for uploads?
Reference images and logos: up to 4MB each, PNG, JPG or WEBP. Your asset library holds up to 50 files total.
Generating & editing with Sam
I got a concept back and hate all of it. What now?
You'll get up to 4 concepts, depending on what Sam can produce for your specific design. If none of them land, it's usually worth one more try — especially on Full Control · Recreate the Look — before switching modes or rewriting your prompt.
What makes a good prompt for Sam?
Be descriptive, and say exactly what you want on each panel. If you're not sure how to phrase it, ask any AI chatbot to help sharpen your prompt first — it works great as a first pass.
How do I get good results out of an edit?
Be descriptive and be firm. Tell Sam exactly where something is and exactly what you want changed about it — vague requests get vague results.
Can I go back to an earlier concept after picking a different one?
Yes. Every concept in your current batch stays selectable — click back to any of them at any time, even after you've picked a different one to edit.
Credits & cost
What actually costs credits?
Your first generation is free. Self-designing is always free. Picking a package style and getting your exact dieline is always free. We only charge for the things that cost us real money — AI image generations.
What's the biggest way people accidentally waste credits?
Running a full new round of concepts when an edit would've fixed it. If you're close but not quite there, edit what you have instead of regenerating from scratch — especially on Full Control · Recreate Faithfully, where a few regenerations can add up fast.
Barcodes, QR codes & legal panels
How do I place a real, scannable barcode?
Upload it on the Brand page or directly in the design canvas, then drag it into place. That's it — it stays exactly as you uploaded it, pixel-for-pixel, always scannable.
Same question for QR codes and nutrition or legal panels — how do those work?
The same way as a barcode: upload it, drag it into place on the canvas, and it stays exactly as you uploaded it. Nothing gets redrawn or regenerated by AI.
Canvas & design
Something on the canvas looks off — did I break it?
If an asset lands off-center, or you spot a discolored patch on a white background, don't worry about it — either drag an element to cover it, or just leave it. Our in-house design team reviews every dieline before production and cleans up small issues like that automatically.
3D preview
What is the 3D preview actually showing me?
Exactly what your final design will look like. Add a finish like foil or spot UV and it'll look even better in person than the preview shows.
Saving, downloading & ordering
Is my work saved if I don't finish in one sitting?
Yes — it's saved automatically to the browser you're working in, no expiration. Once you download a file or place an order, that's permanently on your account and visible in My Studio, from any device.
After I download a dieline, what if I don't order through TWOFORM?
Your production files — print-ready SVG and PDF, with true cut, crease and bleed lines — are yours the moment you download them, even if you cancel later. Take them to any printer in the world, or let us manufacture. Nothing about the file locks you to us.
Can I still request changes after I've placed an order?
Yes — just email orders@twopackaging.com and we'll take it from there.
