A book dropped on a corner concentrates its whole weight there. Loose padding around it does very little; a wrap that puts folded board across that corner does a great deal. Choose a construction that folds material over the corners rather than one that surrounds the book with air.

Books vary enormously in thickness and a single mailer either leaves a slim title sliding or will not close on a thick one. Adjustable-depth folders exist precisely for this. Group the list by trim size, and use a format whose depth can be scored to fit rather than buying six sizes.
