A seed packet is a small pack carrying a surprising amount of information, sold from a spinner rack, and holding something that has to stay dry and alive for a season.

Settle this before you design
Moisture is what kills viability, and paper does not stop it
Seeds stay viable while they stay dry, and a traditional glued paper packet offers almost no moisture barrier — which is fine for a packet sown this spring and poor for one sitting in a shed for a year. If you print a sow-by date more than a season out, the pack needs a barrier film to justify it.
The mistake that costs a print run
Running a separate print for every variety
A grower with fifty varieties cannot realistically run fifty packet designs. The system that works is one stock packet plus a variety label, or one printed design where only a small panel changes. Decide that structure before designing, because it determines whether the range can grow.
How you actually make it
- Open the structure above and type your real dimensions. The dieline is generated at that exact size and validated against real manufacturing limits as it draws — if a size cannot be folded, glued and shipped, it says so before you design anything on it.
- Describe your brand and the AI designs the artwork directly onto that dieline — not onto a picture of a package.
- Place your own logo, barcode and any required panel yourself. The AI leaves them exactly as placed unless you ask it to change them.
- Fold it in live 3D to check it, then download print-ready files to use with any printer — or have TWOFORM manufacture it.
Questions about custom seed packets
What size is a standard seed packet?
Around 3.5 × 4.5in is the familiar size, big enough for sowing instructions on the back and small enough for a spinner rack. Bulk packets go up from there.
Do seed packets need to be sealed?
For anything with a long stated viability, yes. Paper envelopes let moisture in, and moisture is what ends viability rather than time on its own.
How do I handle a large variety range?
One stock packet with a variety label, or one design with a single changing panel. Printing a unique packet per variety does not scale past a handful.
