Settle this before you design
The box has to carry a stack, not just a pair
Shoe boxes are stored and shipped in columns, and the box at the bottom carries everything above it. Corner strength is what does that, which is why lid-and-base constructions outperform boxes with cut-away flaps. Specify the board against the stack height in your warehouse, not against the weight of one pair.
The mistake that costs a print run
Sending a printed shoe box through the post on its own
A retail shoe box is a presentation item, not a shipper. Posted with a label stuck straight on it, it arrives scuffed, dented at the corners and often taped. If the shoe box is part of the product, it travels inside an outer carton — and if that is not workable, a plain shipper is the more honest choice.
How you actually make it
- Open the structure above and type your real dimensions. The dieline is generated at that exact size and validated against real manufacturing limits as it draws — if a size cannot be folded, glued and shipped, it says so before you design anything on it.
- Describe your brand and the AI designs the artwork directly onto that dieline — not onto a picture of a package.
- Place your own logo, barcode and any required panel yourself. The AI leaves them exactly as placed unless you ask it to change them.
- Fold it in live 3D to check it, then download print-ready files to use with any printer — or have TWOFORM manufacture it.
Questions about custom shoe boxes
What size box fits a pair of adult shoes?
Around 14in in each direction is a common footprint for a two-piece construction with room for tissue. Larger sizes and boots need noticeably more length and height.
Why do shoe boxes use a separate lid?
Because a lid-and-base construction holds its corners under a stacked load far better than a box that opens by folding flaps out of the walls, and it reopens cleanly hundreds of times in a stockroom.
Should I ship shoes in the shoe box alone?
Only if you are willing for it to arrive scuffed and labelled. If the box matters to the product, it needs an outer carton around it.
