Settle this before you design

Everything in the box has a place, or nothing does

A device, a cable, a manual and a power supply loose in a box arrive as a jumble and sound like a rattle. Draw the tray with a cavity for every item, at the item's real dimensions plus clearance, and let the tray set the box. The order things are revealed in is a design decision made at the insert, not at the lid.

The mistake that costs a print run

Designing the reveal without designing the repack

Customers open, inspect and often put things back — for a return, for storage, or to move house. A tray that only accepts a cable coiled exactly one way is a source of complaints and damaged returns. Make each cavity forgiving enough to be repacked by someone who did not watch how it came out.

How you actually make it

  1. Open the structure above and type your real dimensions. The dieline is generated at that exact size and validated against real manufacturing limits as it draws — if a size cannot be folded, glued and shipped, it says so before you design anything on it.
  2. Describe your brand and the AI designs the artwork directly onto that dieline — not onto a picture of a package.
  3. Place your own logo, barcode and any required panel yourself. The AI leaves them exactly as placed unless you ask it to change them.
  4. Fold it in live 3D to check it, then download print-ready files to use with any printer — or have TWOFORM manufacture it.

Questions about custom electronics boxes

Rigid or corrugated for an electronics box?

Rigid for the retail box the customer sees, corrugated for the shipper around it. A rigid box posted alone scuffs at the corners and offers limited impact protection for the device inside.

Do I need a tray inside?

For anything with more than one component, yes. A tray fixes the order of the reveal, stops parts moving in transit and stops the pack sounding hollow when it is picked up.

How much clearance should a device have?

Enough to seat and lift out without force, and no more. A snug cavity is what stops movement; padding around a loose device is a much weaker way to achieve the same thing.
