Settle this before you design

Shallow and wide is a structural problem, not a style choice

A folded carton needs its height to be at least about a fifth of its widest side, or the panel sags and the box caves in the middle when it is carried. A 12in-wide box therefore wants at least 2.5in of height. If your product is flatter than that, the answer is a corrugated tray or a rigid base, not a thinner folding carton.

The mistake that costs a print run

Ignoring what butter does to board

Grease wicks into uncoated board within hours, turns the panel translucent and takes the print with it. It is the single most common bakery packaging failure and it is entirely avoidable with a grease-resistant liner or coating on the inside face. Specify it at the start, because it changes the board and therefore the printed result.

How you actually make it

  1. Open the structure above and type your real dimensions. The dieline is generated at that exact size and validated against real manufacturing limits as it draws — if a size cannot be folded, glued and shipped, it says so before you design anything on it.
  2. Describe your brand and the AI designs the artwork directly onto that dieline — not onto a picture of a package.
  3. Place your own logo, barcode and any required panel yourself. The AI leaves them exactly as placed unless you ask it to change them.
  4. Fold it in live 3D to check it, then download print-ready files to use with any printer — or have TWOFORM manufacture it.

Questions about custom bakery boxes

What size box do I need for a cake?

Measure the cake at its widest including any decoration, add about an inch of total clearance, and make the height at least the cake height plus half an inch so the lid never touches the top. For a typical 8in round that lands near a 10 × 10 × 4in box.

Why does my bakery box go see-through?

Butter and oils wicking into uncoated board. A grease-resistant inner coating or liner stops it; nothing you do to the outside of the box will.

Can a bakery box have a window?

Yes, and it sells well. Keep the film patch clear of the folds, and remember that a window in the lid removes the stiffest part of a shallow lid, so the box may need a heavier board than an unwindowed one.
