Custom Coffee Bags
The number that decides a coffee bag is not the roast or the origin — it is grams per millilitre. Whole bean and ground at the same declared weight need visibly different bags, and the valve and the zipper then fight for the same strip of film.

You already know what you are packaging, so there is nothing to set up. This opens the design engine with the side gusset bag structures on screen — then you type your own dimensions and the dieline is generated at that exact size.
The structures coffee bags actually ship in
Every one of these is a construction TWOFORM generates a real production dieline for, at your own dimensions — not a template you have to fit your product into. Each opens the engine already on that package type.
Settle this before you design
Whole bean needs about a third more volume than ground
Whole beans pack at roughly 0.35 to 0.42 g/ml because of the air between them; ground coffee sits nearer 0.55. A 12 oz whole-bean fill is therefore about 850 ml before headspace, against about 620 ml ground. If you run both, either build two bags or build one to the whole-bean volume and accept that the ground version looks underfilled.
The mistake that costs a print run
Letting the valve and the zipper compete for the same band of film
A degassing valve is welded through the film and destroys the artwork behind it; a zipper needs a flat run of film with a tear strip above it. Put both near the top of the same panel and neither works properly. Place the valve low on the back panel or high on the front, decide the zipper position at the same time, and treat both patches as unprintable before any design starts.
How you actually make it
- Open the structure above and type your real dimensions. The dieline is generated at that exact size and validated against real manufacturing limits as it draws — if a size cannot be folded, glued and shipped, it says so before you design anything on it.
- Describe your brand and the AI designs the artwork directly onto that dieline — not onto a picture of a package.
- Place your own logo, barcode and any required panel yourself. The AI leaves them exactly as placed unless you ask it to change them.
- Fold it in live 3D to check it, then download print-ready files to use with any printer — or have TWOFORM manufacture it.
Questions about custom coffee bags
How big is a 12 oz coffee bag?
For whole bean, around 5.25in wide by 12in tall with a 3.5in side gusset — roughly 850 ml of usable volume. Ground coffee at the same weight needs about a third less, which is why one bag rarely suits both.
Do I need a degassing valve?
For coffee bagged within a few days of roasting, yes — carbon dioxide will otherwise swell or burst the bag. Coffee rested for a week or more before packing is more forgiving, but the valve also lets a customer smell the bag, which sells.
Where should the valve go on the bag?
Somewhere the weld will not destroy anything you need to read, and away from the zipper and the seals. The back panel low down is the safest default; a front-panel valve is a design decision you make deliberately.
