Settle this before you design
Design the box around the liner's outside dimensions
The insulated liner has real thickness — often an inch or more per wall — and it must sit flat against the board with no gap for cold air to move. Measure the liner assembled, not flat, add the coolant packs, and size the box to that. A box sized to the food is always too small once the liner goes in.
The mistake that costs a print run
Printing the outside of a box that will get wet
Condensation runs down the inside and the outside of a cold shipper and litho-laminated graphics on plain corrugated will scuff and blotch in transit. If the exterior carries brand, it needs a print process and a coating chosen for damp handling — and the panel that matters most is the top, because that is the one the customer sees on their doorstep.
How you actually make it
- Open the structure above and type your real dimensions. The dieline is generated at that exact size and validated against real manufacturing limits as it draws — if a size cannot be folded, glued and shipped, it says so before you design anything on it.
- Describe your brand and the AI designs the artwork directly onto that dieline — not onto a picture of a package.
- Place your own logo, barcode and any required panel yourself. The AI leaves them exactly as placed unless you ask it to change them.
- Fold it in live 3D to check it, then download print-ready files to use with any printer — or have TWOFORM manufacture it.
Questions about custom meal kit boxes
How big should a meal kit box be?
Start from the liner. A two-person kit typically lands around 12 × 10 × 12in once an insulated liner and coolant are inside; the food itself would fit in something much smaller.
Do I need a separate box for ambient items?
Many kits use one, because packing dry goods against coolant either freezes them or wastes cold. A smaller mailer riding alongside keeps the cold volume down and the cold where it is needed.
Why do meal kit boxes use plain corrugated?
Because the outside gets wet and abraded, and heavy graphics show every mark. Brands that do print the outside choose the process and coating for damp handling rather than for shelf appeal.
