Settle this before you design
Bottle diameter varies far more than bottle height
A standard bottle runs roughly 11.5 to 12.5in tall, but the base diameter swings from about 2.9in for a slim shape to 3.5in or more for a heavy one. A box built to the wrong diameter either will not close or leaves the bottle rattling. Measure the specific bottle you are using at its widest point, including any punt seam.
The mistake that costs a print run
Treating the presentation box as a shipper
A rigid box is wrapped in paper that scuffs, and its corners are the first thing a conveyor finds. Posted on its own it arrives looking handled even when the bottle is intact. If the box will be shipped, plan for an outer corrugated carton and an insert that holds the gift box off all six walls.
How you actually make it
- Open the structure above and type your real dimensions. The dieline is generated at that exact size and validated against real manufacturing limits as it draws — if a size cannot be folded, glued and shipped, it says so before you design anything on it.
- Describe your brand and the AI designs the artwork directly onto that dieline — not onto a picture of a package.

Questions about custom wine gift boxes
What size box fits a standard wine bottle?
Around 4 × 4 × 12in internally for a single bottle with a little clearance. Check your bottle's actual base diameter, which varies by more than an inch across common shapes.
Can a rigid gift box be posted on its own?
It can be, but it will arrive scuffed at the corners and it offers little impact protection for glass. A corrugated outer with an insert is what keeps both the bottle and the box presentable.
Do I need an insert inside a wine box?
For anything that will be carried or shipped, yes. A bottle that can move inside a rigid box transmits every knock into the glass and into the box corners.
