A cable is a long flexible object that has to be shown coiled, kept from tangling and labelled with a length and a connector type people can find fast.

Settle this before you design

Connector type and length have to read from arm's length

Cables are bought by specification, and the two specifications that matter are what plugs into each end and how long it is. Put both on the front panel at a size readable from a metre away, in the same place across the range, and repeat the length on the hang tab where it is visible on a packed peg.

The mistake that costs a print run

A coil that cannot be recoiled

Packaging that only works with a factory-tight coil looks perfect once and is useless afterwards. If the cable can be taken out for inspection, the pack has to accept it going back. Give the cavity room for a slightly looser coil and include a tie the customer can reuse.

How you actually make it

  1. Open the structure above and type your real dimensions. The dieline is generated at that exact size and validated against real manufacturing limits as it draws — if a size cannot be folded, glued and shipped, it says so before you design anything on it.
  2. Describe your brand and the AI designs the artwork directly onto that dieline — not onto a picture of a package.
  3. Place your own logo, barcode and any required panel yourself. The AI leaves them exactly as placed unless you ask it to change them.
  4. Fold it in live 3D to check it, then download print-ready files to use with any printer — or have TWOFORM manufacture it.

Questions about custom cable packaging

What size pack fits a coiled cable?

Around 5 × 1.25 × 8in for a typical coiled cable on a peg. The coil diameter, not the cable length, is what sets the footprint.

Do cables need a carton or just a bag?

A bag protects and shows the product; a carton gives you a front panel that can be read on a rack and stacks on a shelf. Many ranges use both — a sealed inner bag inside a printed carton.

How do I stop cables tangling in the pack?

A cavity or a tie that holds the coil, and a pack sized to the coil rather than to the cable. Cables uncoil in transit whenever they are given room to.
