Settle this before you design
Weight per bag decides the film and the seal width
Rice sits around 0.85 g/ml, which makes it one of the densest things people put in flexible packaging. A five-pound bag is about 2.7 litres and 2.3 kg landing on one seal. That calls for a heavier laminate, a wider seal band and, above about ten pounds, a handle or a hard-sided pack. Fix the weight tier first; everything else follows.
The mistake that costs a print run
Drawing artwork on the flat when the bag will be full and square
A filled quad-seal bag is a solid rectangular block with four hard corners. Artwork drawn as one flat rectangle wraps around those corners and cuts the logo in half. Lay the design out panel by panel, with the corner seals treated as edges, and keep anything that must read whole away from them.
How you actually make it
- Open the structure above and type your real dimensions. The dieline is generated at that exact size and validated against real manufacturing limits as it draws — if a size cannot be folded, glued and shipped, it says so before you design anything on it.
- Describe your brand and the AI designs the artwork directly onto that dieline — not onto a picture of a package.
- Place your own logo, barcode and any required panel yourself. The AI leaves them exactly as placed unless you ask it to change them.
- Fold it in live 3D to check it, then download print-ready files to use with any printer — or have TWOFORM manufacture it.
Questions about custom rice bags
What bag holds 5 lb of rice?
About 2.7 litres of usable volume — in a quad-seal that is roughly 7in wide by 14in tall with a 4in gusset. Rice is dense, so the bag is smaller than the weight implies but the film has to be heavier.
Quad seal or side gusset for rice?
Quad seal if the bag has to stack on a shelf or a pallet and look square; side gusset if you want maximum volume from the least film and the bag will stand in a row rather than in a stack.
Do rice bags need a handle?
Above about ten pounds people will pick the bag up by whatever they can grab, which is usually the top seal. Either add a punched handle designed into the seal or keep the retail sizes below that threshold.
