Settle this before you design
Pick the weight tier first — it decides everything else
Kibble runs around 0.35 to 0.45 g/ml, so a ten-pound bag is roughly ten to thirteen litres and about 4.5 kg landing on the bottom seal. That pushes you to a heavier laminate, wider seals and a handle. Larger fills go past what flexible packaging handles comfortably, so settle the tier before anything else.
The mistake that costs a print run
A resealable closure that cannot take the weight
A press-to-close zipper on a heavy bag opens under load when the bag is lifted by its top. Either use a closure rated for the weight, put the handle low enough that the zipper is not carrying the bag, or accept a fold-and-clip closure on the largest tiers. Design the handle position at the same time as the closure.
How you actually make it
- Open the structure above and type your real dimensions. The dieline is generated at that exact size and validated against real manufacturing limits as it draws — if a size cannot be folded, glued and shipped, it says so before you design anything on it.
- Describe your brand and the AI designs the artwork directly onto that dieline — not onto a picture of a package.

Questions about custom dog food bags
What size bag holds 10 lb of kibble?
Around ten to thirteen litres of usable volume, which in a side-gusset bag is roughly 10in wide by 18in tall with a 5in gusset. Kibble density varies a lot by recipe and piece size, so measure yours.
Do large pet food bags need a handle?
Above about ten pounds people will pick the bag up by whatever they can grab, which is usually the top seal or the zipper. A designed handle keeps that load off the closure.
Quad seal or side gusset for pet food?
Quad seal if the bag has to stack square on a shelf or a pallet; side gusset for maximum volume from the least film where the bags stand in a row.
